God's Chosen - Lk. 8:38-39

From 9/25/2007 reading:

"The man who had been demon possessed begged to go too, but Jesus said, 'No, go back to your family and tell them all the wonderful things God has done for you.'" Lk. 8:38-39

Later on in the chapter, Jesus brings a girl back from the dead but instructs her parents not to tell anyone. Now why would he do this? both are extraordinary events, and if the goal is to have people believe you, wouldn't you want to choose the most credible witness possible? My choice would NOT be the previously demon possessed man! But isn't this just like Jesus? Choosing the unlikely, the unloved? Look at who he chooses to use as his messengers: fishermen, tax collectors, prostitutes, shepherds, crazy guys living in the wilderness, me! They didn't fit the world's view of messengers of God, yet how often am I guilty of this discriminating behavior?

God, give me your heart and eyes, help me to see everyone as you do.

Today's reading: Ezra 2, 3; Lk. 8
